What is Sinopop?

Sinopop is news from Beijing’s art world, reviews, pop culture, and anything that contributes to a broader and better understanding of visual culture and art from Mainland China. Sinopop is maintained by Lee Ambrozy.

Lee Ambrozy graduated from Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine arts, with a M.A. in Chinese art history, her adviser is Yin Jinan. She studied Chinese at Beijing University in 2004 and has been living in Beijing since then, working exclusively as an art translator (Chinese to English) until now. She is currently the editor of Artforum’s Chinese language website, and her first major work in translation Ai Weiwei’s Blog (March 2011) was published by MIT Press in Spring 2011. She has also translated for MoMA’s Contemporary Chinese Art––Primary Documents (ed. Wu Hung, 2010), materials for the China Pavilion of the 53rd Venice Biennial, and written for, as well as translated the catalogue raissoné for the academic artist Chen Wenji (CAFA, 2010); other collaborators include NAMOC, UCCA, and the Today Art Museum among others.
